This project, which won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the salon/dinette upholstery category of the 2008 MFA Awards, involved creating an alternative look over wooden walls, where wallpaper peeled. The client wanted a new look for the sofa frame, chairs and cornice panels. The solution was to prepare PVC wall panels to Velcro onto the wall, underneath windows, on panels toward the bow, over countertops and around electrical boxes. The panels included ¼-inch PVC covered with 1⁄>8-inch foam-backed Majilite vinyl and Velcro. The window frames protruded less than ½-inch, which left a very small distance in which to work. The window span was 10 feet; the PVC comes in 8-foot lengths. We had to join the PVC seemlessly to create a smooth surface in order to obtain the sleek look requested.
