This project, which won an Award of Excellence in the tops 27’ and up category of the 2008 MFA Awards, included an aft cockpit bimini. The cockpit on this boat got wider as it went forward from the back, but it curved back in toward the front, creating an egg shape. This made it difficult to bend a frame to follow that shape. The third bow from the back is the widest, but the forward-most bow needed to narrow to follow the coaming below, and not jut out too far and throw everything off for the curtains below. The fabric needed to be screwed to the frame at the mid bows to prevent it from hiking up and losing the tension at the hem due to the egg shape of the frame. The other challenge on this project was the height restriction because the boom was so low.
