First fiberglass gas-electric boat introduced

A gas-electric hybrid boat from Scout Boats combines a 20-horsepower outboard with two 36-volt motors to create the 145 Hybrid, the industry’s first fiberglass hybrid vessel.

The 14½-foot fishing boat uses three deep-cycle batteries good for eight hours when used at a maximum speed of 8 mph. Electric motors are controlled by a joystick, which has been a hit with kids. Scout is also working on a 16-footer good for 20 mph.
