Cockpit project stays true to original design
Cape Canvas & Rigging, West Yarmouth, Mass.
The goal of this project, which won an Award of Excellence in the cockpit upholstery category of the 2009 MFA Awards, was to replace the high-use areas, helm bolster chairs, the aft bench divider bolster and two sunpad bolsters while matching the remaining upholstery and staying true to the original design. All wood frames were replaced. Each panel was unstitched, flattened and patterned. All topstitching and piping matched the original design. Four different types of vinyl, one discontinued, were found after many phone calls and Internet research. The end result is a seamless transition between new and original.
