The Nautical Needle earns IAA award
The Nautical Needle was recognized with the Outstanding Achievement Award for the exterior upholstery on a 1956 Lone Star Meteor. The boat is so rare that only 12 are estimated to be in existence today. Lone Star Boat Company, based in Texas, was bought by Chrysler when it started building outboard motors in the 1960s. The Meteor’s current owner had been looking for this boat for a long time and knew exactly what he wanted in restoring the vessel. The owner hired a wood-working company to construct the seats and side panels, and Nautical Needle stayed very involved in the time-consuming fabrication process. Correctly installing the foam was crucial because the upholstery was raised above the wooden substrate.
