With a record 29 entries, the Tools, Tricks and Tips competition at the 2018 MFA conference in Savannah, Ga., had no shortage of good ideas. Eric Sevy from Sugar House Awning, Salt Lake City, Utah, was named the first-place Don Racine winner for his erector set type frame assembly that helps onsite patterning. Katie Bradford from Custom Marine Canvas, Noank, Conn., took second place with her tool to start ripper sliders by taping two seam ripper caps together, and the third-place winner was Jeffery Hare from Adaptive Marine Solutions LLC, Windham, N.H., with his flame spreader attached to a trigger-activated torch to heat seal raw fabric edges.
