New powerboat registrations up through June

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) New Powerboat Registrations Report shows that new powerboat registrations were up 2.3 percent on a rolling 12-month year-over-year basis (R12M YOY). Sales of tow boats, cruisers, freshwater fishing boats, yachts and personal watercraft remain strong; all were up on an R12M basis YOY.

Highlights from the report include:

  • Freshwater fishing boat sales, which accounted for nearly 30 percent of new powerboats sold on an annual basis, led quarterly growth compared to all other segments, up 9.1 percent R3M YOY through June.
  • Sales of tow boats and personal watercraft were both robust in the second quarter as well, up 5.4 percent and 3.4 percent R3M YOY through June, respectively.
  • Registrations of boats 27 feet and greater were up 9.9 percent R12M YOY. Of these, growth was led by sales of saltwater fishing boats, which were up 12.8 percent R12M YOY.
