The clients wanted to make adjustments and add to their current stainless steel dodger and bimini frames to create a more functional cockpit area for cruising. They asked that strong, high-quality materials be used so the final result would be suitable for offshore cruising. A significant challenge was using, adjusting and adding to the existing stainless steel frames with the goal of making the usable cockpit area bigger while keeping project costs down and ensuring that all aspects of the boat remained functional, including winches, self-steering mechanisms and saloon and cockpit entries. The clients also requested a soft, removable rain-catching device to gather and collect fresh rainwater from the runoff of the bimini top. It was particularly challenging to keep the enclosed cockpit ergonomically suited to the crew on board given restrictions such as boom height, a steep saloon entry, high cockpit stern and folding solar panels.
