Do you wish someone would just figure out the best path for marine fabricators to make canvas products more accurate and efficiently?
Whether you’re making covers, enclosures, or upholstery, Autometrix has an avenue to decrease the amount of effort it takes for you to digitize patterns, cut fabric, or both. Through our 40 years in business, we have asked countless questions, listened intently, and developed software and machines for all things industrial fabrics. Marine canvas products are unique in the amount of lines that are made in a custom offering. As solutions for measuring and design were introduced throughout the years, it left early adopters with the job of solving a puzzle without all the pieces. The remaining majority saw an incomplete process with a long learning curve.
We are here to tell you, it does NOT have to be hard. In truth, transitioning to automated cutting is quite easy; if you choose the right vendor.
No matter your measuring tool, the desired result is a flat pattern.
If you’re choosing to pattern with plastic, start with a digitizing tool like CADShot to quickly capture a photo of your pattern. Then simply use PatternSmith(program used to edit patterns and run our cutting machine) to verify and trace the pattern, referencing any written notes that will show up in your photo. It’s that easy to have a digital flat pattern, ready to cut.
3D measuring is a powerful tool that can capture extremely accurate renderings of your project in a real-world space. Any 3D measuring device will require a 3D CAD program to take all the points you just captured and create a surface. That same 3D CAD program can flatten your 3D drawing. From that point, allow Autometrix PatternSmith to develop the detailed patterns. PatternSmith is an award-winning software that manages geometry, adds important details for your sewer/welder such as seam allowances and notches, and nests your patterns for the most efficient use of your fabric.
If you have access to the existing cover, turning that into a usable digital pattern, ready to cut can take under one minute. New digitizing tools such as CADShot Mobile make it easy for you to design a recover with ZERO CAD experience. Using an everyday smartphone and a provided calibrated board, SNAP a Photo->CHOOSE the Pattern-> SEND to PatternSmith-> CUT the Fabric. It really takes 30 seconds and it is that easy.
We’re not here to tell you that our way is the only way; it’s just the easiest to use and best supported method. As many of our marine canvas clients will tell you, don’t let the most complicated products keep you from improving many other parts of your business. Start the process of patterning and automating. You will find with our support, your path to a more efficient company is extremely accessible.
