In memoriam: Russell B. Hogshire

Russell Beverly “Happy” Hogshire, third-generation president of Hogshire Industries Inc. in Norfolk, Va., died on Sept. 17 at the age of 77. Hogshire joined the company, which has specialized in canvas products since 1898, after serving in the U.S. Army. He worked on the board of the Industrial Fabrics Association International and was named an Honored Life Member of both IFAI and the Zone 4 Virginia-Carolinas Canvas Products Association.

An avid sailor, Hogshire won several local, national, and international sailing titles and was a member of the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. He also helped establish the Old Dominion University sailing program.

As a leader in the local community, Hogshire participated in the Norfolk Lions Club and was an active member of his church. He also supported the Young Life of Norfolk and Gideons International of Virginia, as well as numerous cultural arts organizations.
