Fisheries in good shape

In May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its annual report on U.S. fisheries, praising the commercial and recreational fishing industries for their role in rebuilding six nearly depleted stocks.

Last year, Southern Tanner crab, Acadian redfish, windowpane, yellowtail flounder, Coho salmon and pink shrimp stocks were successfully rebuilt. Today, 90 percent of species are no longer subject to overfishing. The commercial and recreational fishing industries contribute more than $199 billion in sales and 1.7 million jobs to the domestic economy.
