Miami show faces relocation

With the Miami Beach Convention Center scheduled to begin major renovations at the end of 2015, the city’s International Boat Show is looking for potential alternative hosting sites, according to the Miami Herald newspaper. Show directors are looking for a new venue to host the 2016 and 2017 shows. A spokeswoman for the boat show, held in February and which attracts nearly 100,000 visitors, said any talk about the event moving permanently was “pure speculation,” though convention representatives did express concern about the show’s moving. The construction project will cost an estimated $500 million and render the center’s parking lot, where boats are displayed, unusable, and reduce the complex to about half its usual operating size.
