The Watersports Participation Survey—and annual study conducted by a consortium of British marine organizations—reports 3.5 million adults in the United Kingdom participated in boating activities in 2014. Participation in any watersports activity in addition to 12 highlighted boating activities stands at 13.1 million, or 26.8 percent of adults in the U.K., compared to 28.8 percent in 2013. Among the study’s key findings: Female participation in any boating activity continues a steady increase since 2010 and is now at the joint highest point (6.2 percent, the same as in 2007) it has been since the study began in 2002. And participation among boaters older than 55 has been increasing steadily since 2011 and it is now at its highest since the survey began, with participation increasing 66 percent since 2002.
