The Personal Watercraft Industry Association (PWIA) was recognized in May at the 68th Virginia Public Relations Awards ceremony with an Award of Excellence for its 2014 campaign, “Building a Community of Safety on the Water, PWIA’s Second Annual Safe Rider Program.” The Safe Rider program is an initiative to educate personal watercraft users on safety while asking them to sign a pledge committing to the safe and responsible operation of their personal water craft. Safe Rider kicked off in 2013. Riders of every skill level, of multiple locations or various scenarios are asked to commit to the steps of the safe-rider program as etiquette for themselves and other operators, as well as marine life and the environment.
