DOI cancels “Take Me Fishing” funding
The Department of the Interior (DOI) canceled a multi-year grant to the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF). The nonprofit has received the grant award for its “Take Me Fishing” program since 1998.
The decision came after the Senate Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) leadership flagged the program. Early grant funding freezes by DOGE led RBFF to furlough eight of its 16 employees in June.
On June 10, the DOI sent RBFF a letter announcing the official termination of the nonprofit’s grant. The letter notes that the DOI can terminate grant “if an award no longer effectuates the program goals or agency priorities.”
“This award no longer effectuates the priorities of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and is therefore terminated,” the letter says.
