In 2025, U.S. outboard engine sales totaled 267,000 units, a 3.9 percent decline year-over-year. This data comes from the National Marine Manufacturers Association’s (NMMA) annual Outboard Engine Sales Trends report, part of the 2025 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract.

NMMA said that despite softer unit demand, the market remained stable overall, supported by resilient pricing and continued strength in higher horsepower segments. Total market value reached $3.5 billion, while average retail prices rose 3.2 percent to $13,081.

The full report provides a deep dive into the outboard engine market over more than 10 years. Data included in the 2025 Outboard Engine Sales Trends report includes:

  • Higher horsepower remains in demand: Engines 300 horsepower and greater led the market, with 39,700 units sold.
  • Regional concentration continues: The South Atlantic, Great Lakes and Gulf Coast regions accounted for over 60 percent of unit sales and more than two-thirds of total market value, with Florida and Texas leading state-level demand.
