New boat sales declined 5.6 percent in March
National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) released its latest Monthly Recreational Boating Industry Data Summary, featuring data through March 2026. According to the report, new powerboat retail unit sales declined 5.6 percent year to date to 38,052 units.
Performance across key segments remained mixed through the first quarter. Sales of new freshwater fishing boats and personal watercraft were down 1.3 percent and 1.0 percent, respectively, while outboard boats continued to represent the largest share of new boat sales by engine type — with 24,596 units sold year-to-date, down 6.6 percent from 2025.
NMMA indicated that key economic indicators continue to shape the market environment. “The spring and early summer selling season will be an important indicator of where buyer demand stands as dealers and manufacturers navigate ongoing macroeconomic pressure,” the association said in a press release.
