Cape Canvas & Rigging, West Yarmouth, Mass.

This project, which won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the miscellaneous category of the 2009 MFA Awards, called for a batten-framed bow dodger that provides protection of a traditional bow dodger, while eliminating the bulk and bother of a stainless or aluminum frame. The profile of the dodger matches the look of today’s moving center consoles. The tight, low slung design, paired with reinforcing, ensures the dodger can hold up under extreme conditions. Utilizing zippered connectors and quick-release pins, the dodger rolls forward for storage or can be stowed in rod storage to get it out of the way. Due to the height and shape, visibility from the helm is unaffected. A zip-out Strataglass window provides ventilation and access forward to the anchor.
