Removable settee back creates better seating arrangement
DRH Canvas & Marine Ltd., Halifax, Nova Scotia
This project, which won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the cockpit upholstery category of the 2009 MFA Awards, involved the complete new cockpit upholstery for a 1992 26-foot Chaparral with all new substrates and foam. The client wanted a new look and to replace the rotten wood. The client also wanted a section of the settee back to be removable for better aft seating arrangement. The challenges were to design the settee back with arm to be stable underway at high speeds or to be removed and to manufacture the substrates to fit properly since old substrates were rotten.
