Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing hosts Screamin’ Reels Tournament

Lady anglers from across Florida and beyond reeled in 110 offshore fish during the Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing (LLGF) Screamin’ Reels Tournament, held May 16–18, 2025, in Islamorada, Fla., and hosted by the nonprofit Ladies Let’s Go Fishing Foundation.
Participants boarded private and charter boats on Saturday and Sunday to compete in offshore waters. In total, the anglers hooked 77 mahi, along with wahoo, tuna, amberjack and more.
Winners included:
- First Place Offshore: Kat Farese, Dania Beach, Fla.—15.8 lb. Wahoo on “Marlin Darlin”
- Second Place Offshore: Michelle Mobley, Orlando—12.45 lb. Blackfin Tuna on “Sea Horse”
- Third Place Offshore: Kelly DeNone, Tavernier, Fla.—10.8 lb. Wahoo on “Poppa Wahoo”
- First Place Jack Division: Melissa Vickers, Cocoa Beach, Fla.—30.1 lb. Amberjack on “Miller Time”
The top-performing private boat, Marlin Darlin, featured an all-female crew, with captain Jeanne Towne and angler Kat Farese, both from Dania Beach, triumphing over larger charter teams to clinch first place offshore.
Although the inshore division was available, anglers opted to venture offshore. For several participants, the event marked exciting firsts.
“I dreamed of catching a mahi someday—and I did!” says Tegwin Stockdale of New Port Richey, Fla.
DeNone adds, “So excited to catch my first-ever mahi, tuna, and a wahoo!”
Winners received Penn fishing combos, art prints, apparel and other prizes during the awards ceremony on Sunday at Whale Harbor Marina.
“This tournament is unlike any other,” said Betty Bauman, founder of LLGF. “Screamin’ Reels welcomes casual anglers into a fun and supportive tournament where nearly any legal offshore or inshore species is fair game. It’s perfect for women who’ve never fished—or never imagined they could enter a tournament.”
LLGF offers another Florida Keys event Oct. 17-19, with a full-day fishing seminar, two days of fishing and casual prizes. The Islamorada Women’s Sailfish Tournament will be held Jan. 30-Feb. 1, 2026.
