Take time to unwind

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you have been busy for the past few months. This may be my first year at Marine Fabricator, but I’m a born-and-bred Minnesotan who is acutely aware of how much time—or lack thereof—I have to get on the water.

It was a common refrain from several folks who are featured in this issue: “I’m sorry for the late reply, it’s our busy season” or “I need a little more time, the shop has been crazy.” It’s an expected response that I hope I met with understanding. Frankly, I’m surprised some of you have time to eat and sleep!

When you do have a minute, I hope this issue helps you discover new ways to make your shop run even better. Our “Work smarter, not harder” feature is full of simple, quick-fix strategies to improve efficiency when every minute counts.

As work eventually slows down, you can start thinking about the bigger updates you may need—perhaps a facility upgrade or move, which we cover in this issue. We review the latest trends in boat bedding, which may offer new ideas that keep you running around like crazy.

You can also start planning for continuing education this fall and winter. Kyle Van Damme, a board member of the Marine Fabricators Association (MFA), outlines the group’s history of industry education, promoting excellence and why MFA events lift us all up.

Whether it’s sooner or later, my wish for you is a chance to rest and enjoy the water this summer, too. I feel confident saying that you’ve earned it. If there’s anything I can do with our editorial to support you, reach out any time—unless it’s one of my kayaking days.
