Yellow Enclosure on Beneteau 353

The purpose of this dodger and enclosure is to provide more useable space on this Beneteau 35 sailboat throughout the year. The client wanted to be able to enjoy the use of the enclosed cockpit on rainy and windy days while sailing or at anchor. The challenge of this project was making the enclosure so that it would not impair one’s ability to fully sail the boat with the enclosure on.

The results of the project, which won an Outstanding Achievement Award in the marine projects sailboats category of the 2007 International Achievement Awards, were better than the client expected. The use of Sunbrella’s Buttercup color cast a bright, cheerful diffused light in the cockpit, which helped counteract the dark gloomy days that are frequent in the Northwest. The client mentioned that with the addition of this quality enclosure, particularly the ease of use when sailing, they found that they used the boat more often, rain or shine.
